Apple Recalls Verizon iPad 2s

Yesterday on the Mac Rumors Forum, I read a post from a very frustrated forum member who had an iPad 2 recalled as it was out for delivery on a FedEx truck. He received a notification that his iPad 2 had been sent back to the factory in China, as he was sitting at home waiting to receive it.
As it turns out, Apple is recalling some of its Verizon iPad 2 units because of an error in manufacturing that caused some of them to have a duplicate mobile equipment identifier, or MEID number, leading to interruptions in 3G service. According to an Apple representative, only an “extremely small number” of iPads were recalled, and most of those had yet to reach the market.
However, a few of the faulty iPads have been sold, and customers that are having trouble connecting to Verizon’s 3G network with a new iPad 2 should exchange it at an Apple Store.
Apple Stores are also reportedly giving a $50 store credit to customers who experience the glitch, and employees are now scanning iPad 2s to check for certain serial numbers to prevent additional defective iPads from being sold.
